Psychiatric services
Whether you’re starting psychiatric care for the first time, looking to make changes to your current treatment, or need ongoing support, we offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and pharmacogenetic testing when appropriate.
Psychiatric evaluations
Your first appointment gives us time to understand what has been going on, what you have tried before, and what you would like help with now. We review your psychiatric and medical history, current symptoms, medications, sleep, and other factors that may be affecting how you feel. Blood work, urine testing, or other medical follow-up may also be recommended when appropriate. From there, we talk through the options and decide together what makes sense moving forward.
Medication management
Medication can be helpful, but it should have a clear purpose. Whether you are considering medication for the first time or want to revisit a current regimen, we go over your options, possible side effects, and what to expect. We regularly review how medications are working, whether they are still needed, and whether treatment can be simplified when appropriate. When it is helpful, we also try to incorporate supportive therapy into follow-up visits so there is room to talk through what is happening beyond medication alone. Supplements and other nonprescription options may also be discussed when they make sense as part of your care.
Stimulant policy
Stimulant medications require a comprehensive assessment to determine whether treatment is clinically appropriate. They are generally not prescribed at the first visit and, if prescribed, are managed under a structured monitoring protocol that may include blood testing, urine drug screening, and regular blood pressure and heart rate monitoring. Our practice does not prescribe stimulant doses above FDA labeled dosing ranges, and an existing stimulant prescription does not guarantee that it will be continued or refilled. All prescribing decisions are based on the clinician’s assessment and clinical judgment.
Benzodiazepine policy
Benzodiazepines are generally not prescribed for daily or long-term use in our practice. If you are currently taking a benzodiazepine, establishing care with our practice does not guarantee that the medication will be continued or refilled. All prescribing decisions are based on clinical appropriateness and the provider’s individual assessment.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can be provided on its own or as part of ongoing psychiatric care. Sessions give you time to talk through what is happening in your life, better understand patterns that may be contributing to how you feel, and work on practical ways of managing them. The approach may vary depending on your needs and what feels most helpful to you.
Pharmacogenetic testing
Pharmacogenetic testing uses a simple cheek swab to look at genetic differences that may affect how your body processes certain psychiatric medications. It does not tell us which medication will work best, but it can provide additional information when choosing or adjusting treatment, especially if you have experienced side effects or limited benefit from medications in the past.
